Sample speech and essay about makar Sankranti festival

Respected principal, teachers and my dear friends, good morning, my name is Sam. I would like to express my thoughts about makar Sankranti festival in India.

Makar Sankranti is a Hindu festival celebrated all over India. It marks the entry of the Sun in the Capricorn zodiac. Every year it falls on 14th January and sometimes on 15th January.

It is celebrated by various names in India such as makar Sankranti, Lohri , Pongal in South India. it is the harvest festival after Diwali and sun God and river goddesses are worshipped on this occasion.

Astronomically, this festival time is very important and son’s Northward journey starts and even Stonehenge is alligned to mark this day. Since ancient times, many cultures have been worshipping Sun god who is the source of energy for us.

On this day, women worship small earthen pots containing crops like wheat, sugarcane, dry fruits like almonds, dry dates, coconut kernel. people give jaggery and seasome to each other. It is called as til and gul and say a take Tilugul and talk sweetly. It contains high calories that help our body face cold season easily.

People greet each other and distribute sweets made up of seasom and jaggery. It helps in increasing affection and brotherhood among people of all religions at the same time it is beneficial for our good health during the cold months of winter.

I love this festival very much as it brings people together and increases the feeling of affection and co-operation. it is such a nice feeling to exchange sweets with each other and enjoy kite flying which is one of the important features of makar Sankranti. In South India, it is called as pongal and sweet dish prepared from rice is eaten.
